Position Summary-
To support and advise on planning and development of a strategic organizational approach to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) that will include building a roadmap to a more diverse and inclusive organization, including for employees who are Black, Indigenous, people of colour, women, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQ2+. To provide environmental scanning and strategic analysis and of new developments, trends, and issues in the public health and broader health system to enhance EDI. This senior-level role involves extensive coordination and liaison across the organization often related to matters of substantial complexity and sensitivity.
Key Responsibilities-

  • Supports Executive team to implement the strategic directions related to enterprise-wide equity, diversity and inclusion, advising on the development of a specific diversity and inclusion strategy, and developing and implementing initiatives to support learning and leadership capacity across the organization and foster a culture of health, safety, and wellness that that enhances the quality of work-life and organizational performance.
  • Reviews and assesses organizational needs and makes recommendations to enhance equity, diversity, inclusion, and cultural safety, including frameworks and programming to be incorporate EDI into business practices across the organization and embed EDI into employee and stakeholder experiences, including change management strategies and processes.
  • Researches, monitors and analyzes emerging trends, issues, challenges, and best practices in EDI in the public health and broader health systems and other related sectors to inform future strategies and policy direction.
  • Provides strategic advice and recommendations to inform enterprise-level policy and program planning to enhance EDI, including the development of supporting products, resources, and
  • Plans and implements initiatives to support a culture of equity, diversity, anti-racism, and inclusion in the workplace, including awareness, education, and training programs.
  • Acts as a resource to HR to support recruitment and workplace strategies to create a supportive environment for employees who are Black, Indigenous, people of colour, women, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2+, and other peoples who have experienced systemic racism, discrimination, or marginalization.
  • Develops recommendations and planning required for collecting EDI data, metrics, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to highlight emerging trends and demonstrate effectiveness and impact of EDI initiatives.
  • Leads the preparation of related executive briefings, as applicable
  • Leads and/or provides strategic support to enterprise-level special projects as assigned by the Manager (e.g. internal consultation plan for PHO’s strategic plan development, various quality improvement initiatives).
  • Develops and nurtures networks and relationships to enhance cooperative and timely access to appropriate expertise, both internally and externally.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships within the organization and with external stakeholders, as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge And Skills-

  • Thorough understanding of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (preferably through lived experience) and of current issues and challenges facing individuals from equity-seeking communities.
  • Experience advancing anti-racist, anti-oppressive and culturally safe approaches within organizations and a thorough understanding of the key processes needed in developing an equity, diversity, and inclusion strategy.
  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Experience and/or understanding of the structure and function of public health and the broader health system in Ontario is an asset.
  • Well-developed knowledge and experience with a variety of change management theories and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of performance measurement methods to develop performance metrics.
  • Understanding of the diverse range of issues, emerging trends and developments that directly impact the public health and health system as a whole (e.g., climate change).
  • Knowledge of and expertise in the application of the principles and practices of environmental scanning, trends forecasting, and issues analysis in order to support various initiatives, particularly those with organization-wide implications.
  • Knowledge of stakeholder consultation, engagement and management principles/strategies.
  • Strategic thinking skills to enable effective participation in initiatives that require thought leadership.
  • Project management skills and the ability to lead initiatives from conceptualization to realization in order to develop, implement and/or participate in a variety of projects.
  • Research, planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Skill and expertise in working in a matrix management structure and within cross disciplinary-teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio) and familiarity with SharePoint.

Education And Experience-

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Multicultural or Intercultural Studies, Social Work, Public Policy, Health Administration, Public Health, Education) preferred, or a minimum of 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
