About the role

The Payroll Lead is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for the company’s payroll function, ensuring compliance and financial reporting.  The Payroll Lead is a strong leader within our People Team, working together to ensure data, metrics and reporting are accurate, and will function as a subject matter expert for payroll-related projects in addition to implementations. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Supervise the payroll function; manage payroll changes and updates, keep up with ongoing government requirements, assist in processing payroll when required
  • Review and approve bi-weekly payroll reports/ transactions and internal control documents relating to payroll
  • Review final payroll registers, earnings, deductions and GL distribution reports
  • Coordinate preparation of bi-weekly payroll for the purpose of ensuring the timely and accurate compensation of employees for Canada, United Kingdom and Australia
  • Monitor assigned payroll and benefits activities and/or program components for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established financial, legal and/or administrative requirements
  • Perform analysis of existing business processes and design; identify and evaluate possible re-configuration/solutions in response to business issues and challenges
  • Collaborate closely with Workday Administrator to implement changes or additions to earnings, deductions codes set-up for Workday payroll 

What we’re expecting you to have

  • Experience with implementing and configuration of payroll systems
  • Workday experience would be preferred
  • Strong analytical capabilities with attention to detail
  • CPA Designation, Certified Payroll Management Certification (CPM) or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of increasing responsibility and experience as a payroll professional, including experience with payroll, benefits, payroll tax and related financial reporting 
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with demonstrated ability to communicate and partner effectively with colleagues, clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to lead and develop a team, plan, organize and manage workloads
  • Ability to work collaboratively and across disciplines for a common goal
  • Proven ability to aggregate and analyze information and data for effective problem solving and utilizes sound judgment
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
